Approach
What working together looks like.
We help children, teens, and adults gently unpack trauma and other challenges so life feels lighter again.
Our licensed therapists blend evidence-based practices with genuine human warmth, creating a safe space where you can explore, process, and grow at your own pace. Whether you’re navigating recent events or long-buried memories, we’ll walk beside you, celebrate progress, and offer practical tools that fit your everyday life. You deserve relief, clarity, and hope, and together, we’ll work toward them.
No surprises, no jargon. Here's how the process runs from your first message through ongoing sessions.
-
Complete our secure prescreening form, complete the secure contact form, or send an email to: hello@frickcounseling.com with a little about what's bringing you in, your insurance and your general availability.
-
We'll have a short, no-pressure conversation to discuss fit, logistics, and whether one of our therapists is the right match for your needs.
-
We’ll send you a link and directions to your login with our portal, SimplePractice. All important information is stored here for your review and signature, and once you’re fully onboarded, you can schedule appointments, send messages to your therapist and update information with your login. Easy and convenient!

Your first full session is mostly history and orientation — where you've been, what you've tried, and what you'd like to be different. Your therapist will discuss our policies, give you an idea of how they work, and answer any questions you have.
-
We settle into a rhythm, usually weekly at first. Every few months, we step back and check whether the plan still fits.

Sessions are 50 minutes. Most clients start weekly, then move to every other week once things feel steadier. We decide together.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. What you share in session stays in session, with the narrow legal exceptions every therapist must follow: risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order.
-
That's very common. You don't need to arrive with a prepared summary or the right words. We start wherever you are and build from there. Your first session allows us to get to know each other, talk through what's bringing you in, and figure out a plan together. There's no pressure to have it all figured out before you walk in.
-
Fit matters more than credentials. Give it two or three sessions, and if it isn't working, we'll help you find someone who's a better match — no awkwardness required.
